Airlines & Baggage

Most airlines are charging for baggage. This is an additional charge assessed at the airport by the airline.

Carry-on 3-1-1

3-1-1 is for short trips. If in doubt, put your liquids in checked luggage.

• 3.4 ounce bottle or less (by volume)
• 1 quart-sized, clear, plastic, zip-top bag
• 1 bag per passenger placed in screening bin.

One-quart bag per person limits the total liquid volume each traveler can bring. 3.4 oz. container size is a security measure.

Consolidate bottles into one bag and X-ray separately to speed screening.

Be prepared. Each time TSA searches a carry-on it slows down the line. Practicing 3-1-1 will ensure a faster and easier checkpoint experience.

Declare larger liquids. Medications, baby formula & food, and breast milk are allowed in reasonable quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the zip-top bag. Declare these items for inspection at the checkpoint.

Come early and be patient. Heavy travel volumes and the enhanced security process may mean longer lines at security checkpoints. TSA works with airlines and airports to anticipate peak traffic and be ready for the traveling public.

Car Rental

Renting a car can be a life-saver while traveling away from home--you won't have to wait for a shuttle or taxi.

Non-name brand companies may tout "great deals" but consider renting from a reputable company that will be there when you land and get to the rental counter. You may laugh but, travelers have landed, gone to the rental counter only to find that the company went out of business days before and sent no notification to those who had secured rentals through their company.

Most car rental companies require a major credit card for the rental--not cash, and require the driver to be 21 years of age. Plan ahead or plan to take alternate transportation.

Travel Insurance

Travel insurance can be a blessing when travel plans have to be canceled.  If you are investing in a vacation package, travel abroad, or other extended travel, consider travel insurance.
